How Can I help with the Iowa Mini-forest project?

One way to get involved with the Iowa Mini-Forest Project is to join us as a volunteer! Volunteer work for a mini-forest includes planting native trees, mulching to retain moisture, weeding to keep the area healthy, and building structures like birdhouses or compost bins. These efforts help create a thriving, sustainable ecosystem and support the growth of a vibrant green space for the community. Another way to take part in the Mini-Forest Revolution is to grow a Mini-Forest of your own! Whether you are interested in volunteering or want assistance in getting started with planting Mini-Forests, contact us using the form below and we’ll help you get started!

VOLUNTEERING BUILDS COMMUNITY

The Brookview Mini-Forest would not have been possible without the help of our community. The City of West Des Moines donated the land, purchased seedlings, did soil preparation, helped with planting, and continues to water our little trees and shrubs. Steve Shivvers and Kari Noble amended the soil. More than 600 Brookview Elementary School students, with the help of their teachers and staff, planted and mulched. Waukee APEX students created our logo, recruited volunteers, sought donations, designed and built our signs, and created this website. The ISU Forestry Department is doing research and developing environmental lesson plans for elementary students. And many, many community volunteers helped to plan, raise money, plant, mulch, weed, and erect the fencing. As we continue to grow the Brookview Mini-Forest, we hope to see more volunteers join our mini-forest family!
